Our History
and Family Traditions
Our farm was originally purchased by Nester Bruce. We aren’t sure if it was just forest land at that time or had been worked
before he acquired it. Whoever cleared that land certainly had a gigantic undertaking. The land was hilly and covered in rocks and
boulders that had to be removed using horse and manpower. Nestor and his family (wife and 2 daughters) were running the farm
when their 2 sons died in tragic accidents. The family adopted 3 sons - 2 were nephews of Mrs. Bruce, whose mother had died
when they were 1 and 3 years old, John and Oliver Hakkinen, the other son was another relative, Pat Bruce. The Bruce family was
elderly and needed help on the farm so the boys had to grow up fast. Oliver said he started getting up at 4AM to feed the cattle
and horses when he was about 8 years old and they were increasingly taking over the farm responsibilities.
The current owner, Donald Wolak bought the farm in 2012 and began creating his own farm called Loud Acres Farm. He’s
constantly working around the farm with his Skidster on the dirt bike track. He created the dirt bike track for a few family and
friends who ride dirt bikes. Donald is always building something from anything he can find around the farm. The name, Loud
Acres, comes from his love of fire arms. Donald is always working on a project on the farm. He’s believes in using what he has first
- re-purpose, reuse, and recycle. He also creates his own jalopies - it’s pretty cool. He has also made his own grader for the road
and still uses his grandparents vintage equipment on the farm.
Donald created his own Green House with all re-purposed wood from the farm
and old Windows. We have free range chickens and lots of baby chicks. You can
see us making hay in the fields then keeping them clear of trees. There is A LOT
of up-keep on any farm and it is no different here. Many of the original buildings
are all still standing. Our goal is to carry on the family traditions of reuse, re-
purpose, and recycle.
